Yes, You Can!
I spent most of my childhood living in can’t. I “couldn’t” do well in sports, in school, with friends. I let self doubt run my life. I let fear keep me from seeing what was possible. Until I didn’t. That life didn’t feel good. That life was mediocre. So I started trying. Started putting myself out there. Did I fail? Sure? But the more I tried, the better I got. In all areas of life.
We live in this amazing world where we can learn from the masters of everything. Want to learn piano? Watch a youtube video. Want to learn a second language? Take an online course? Want to start a business? Listen to a business podcast. We don’t have to guess. Success leaves clues. Pretty much all of the top successful people tell us how they live their lives and how they got there. We just need to stop being paralyzed and start doing something. Action is the best way to remove doubt.
I listen daily to podcasts and books about entrepreneurs and leaders. When you hear all of the things they have overcome...well, it’s amazing. You think “if they could do that, then I surely can succeed in my life.” It puts things in perspective. Big problems have been solved before. Big challenges have been overcome. You can do it too!
I have the opportunity to speak to thousands of women. And so many are stuck. They are overwhelmed. And I just want to shake them by the shoulders and say, “yes you can!”
Why not you to live your best life?
To have the body you want?
To have a great career?
To be a great mom?
Why not you to live a great life?
What are you afraid of? I know that I am often afraid of looking stupid, people judging me, making a mistake, saying the wrong thing, looking unattractive. Sound familiar? See, we all have self doubt. But I don’t let it hold me back. People can laugh at me. They can judge me. But I know that I am stepping into my life with both feet. I’m doing what I love. I am going to make the most of this precious life I’ve been given.
Here’s what I know. We can make more money but we can’t make more time. The time is now. One of my very favorite quotes is by Katherine Center and it says “Every single minute of every single day, you are writing the story to your only life.” If you don’t like how the book is going, pick up the pen and write a new chapter. Add some comedy. Drop the drama. Create an adventure.
Can you even begin to imagine the possibilities if all of us started to live up to our full capabilities? Our world would be fueled on passion and possibility.
Ready to get started? Here is a visualization that can help you get to “can”
Create a visualization of what you truly want your life to look like. Close your eyes. Make it as real as possible. What do you want your life to look like? Feel like? The more specific the better.
Imagine that person in that life. What would she do to get there? What routines does she have each day? What actions does she take? What does that person not do?
What are the obstacles to that life? How would the “yes you can” version of you get around those obstacles? I want you to see yourself encountering the obstacle and then overcoming it.
Imagine yourself succeeding in what you desire. What does that look like? How does it feel?
Finally, open your eyes and put pen to paper. What do you want? What do you need to do? By when? Put this somewhere in front of you to remind you of what you want your life to look like.
I believe that energy is contagious. And I want all of you reading this to start an epidemic of people who believe in themselves. Go on now with your amazing life!
